It's Your Turn to Nominate a Bold & Digital Guy OR Girl! #SocialCoeds

Well, we made it over the hump (ahh)! And what better way to celebrate than by telling the world who you think deserves a spot in the 2012 Men and Women of Social Media Calendar? (I mean, seriously)

Is it your co-worker who's Bold & Digital prowess you secretly admire and need an awesome way to let them know? Is it someone you follow/stalk on all of the appropriate social media channels because every tweet, post and check-in is just that awesome? Is it yourself (totally legit)?

Today we're taking nominations from YOU! If you have a guy or girl you'd like to see smiling back at you in 2012 DM or tweet us at @SocialCoeds (or: @ashleyacox @libbypigg @brett) with their Twitter handle and the hashtag #SocialCoeds. We'll tally the total responses and include the top submissions (one guy/one girl) in the final running.

Happy nominating!

Introducing #SocialCoeds @Ultragrrrl & @Jmpelz

Dear Friends,

It’s that time of year again. The Bold and Digital Social Media Calendar is BACK and better than ever. Because this year we are including something that you told us was clearly missing – and that’s WOMEN. This year’s Advisory Board includes calendar originators @LibbyPigg and @AshleyaCox with the addition of former Mr. April, @Brett and former Mr. July, @Armano.

We’re getting a later start than last year, so we’ll be speeding up this process quite a bit – so pay attention!

This week we’ll announce two nominees per day - these nominees do not guarantee their very own month – it will be up to YOU to vote for them when we make that announcement in the next few weeks. We will be working with a charity again this year, so stay tuned for that announcement.

And now the moment you’ve been waiting for…our first two nominees:

Sarah Lewitinn @ultragrrrl

Sarahpurple

I knew of @ultragrrrl (Libby writing) back in 2003 via Friendster when I still lived in Chicago. Life has never been the same since…

Love her or hate her, you know of her. Maybe you were a fan of her blog. Perhaps you’ve saw her on the cover of Village Voice a few years ago. You might have read her book ”Pocket Karoake.” I bet you’ve seen her on VH1 talking about what’s cool or you read her former column in Spin “making out with Ultragrrrl.”

Maybe (like me) you were her boss and got a little nervous to read her (very bold) Twitter. Those were the days… and now @Nylongmag is lucky to have her.  (And if you’re not already following her, I suggest you get on that). I asked her last week how she would feel about being a calendar women and she said she’d only do it if she could pose nude. Perhaps she was joking, but the only way to know for sure is if you show your support for @ultragrrrl when voting time comes around.

In the interest of mentioning Friendster again,  Sarah’s brother Lawrence was one of my first friends(ters) and is also a possible calendar contender because a) the girls think he’s dreamy b) his Peter Murphy impersonation and c) he is one of the founders of Socialisting, the hottest new way to find apartments, jobs, and stuff from the people you trust most -- your friends and their friends.

Josh Pelz @jmpelz

Joshnew

Staying with the unintentional theme of cool Jewish social media experts rooted in the music scene, we present to you Mr. Pelz.

Josh is the social media voice of the Gansevoort Hotel Group, managing their social properties across Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare. Prior to his work at Gansevoort,  Josh managed digital marketing for Camp Bisco and booked Pretty Lights first solo east coast show. Speaking of music, if you ever go to a music festival, be on the lookout for this man. He is the ultimate travel companion. He knows what to bring, where to stay and how to get the best seat in the house…or best spot in the sand if we are talking about Bonnaroo.

A true class act, and he definitely dresses the part. On any given day you might see him in Rag & Bone,Band of Outsiders or Etro. Suit or hoodie – it’s all about the style. And don’t take our word for it, check out page six where Josh is referred to as the a modern day Don Draper.

PRESENTING: The 2011 Bold & Digital Men of Social Media Calendar

Happy New Year Bold & Digital Friends!

2011 is finally upon us and we are pleased to announce that the Bold & Digital Men of Social Media Calendar is finally here! Yes, we realize we’re a few days behind, but our delay was only to ensure that the final product was exactly what we wanted it to be: BOLD and of course DIGITAL.

The calendar is both a steamy collection of digital heartthrobs and a reminder that we must do our part and give back to charity. We hope that you’ll not only click below to enjoy a year’s worth of drool-worthy photos, but that you’ll use the PayPal button to donate $1.00 towards Falling Whistles and their effort to rehabilitate and advocate for war-affected children in the Republic of Congo. It’s a small amount but will go a long way if we use the power of social media to help spread the word.

Throughout 2011 each calendar man will be responsible for promoting his month and helping to raise proceeds for Falling Whistles. A bit of a contest among the Bold & Digital darlings, if you will. When you donate in January you’re voting for Scott Monty, in July David Armano (and so on) – the man with the most donations during his specific month will become the “2011 Bold & Digital Man of the Year” and made the official cover model for the 2012 calendar. Very exciting stuff.

And now without further adieu… the calendar.

Today's the Day! Kickoff Party for #Socialmen & Benefit for FallingWhistles!

Poster1

Happy Friday Bold & Digital Friends!

After a little over two months of nominating, ogling, more nominating, voting and lots of planning the official kickoff party for the “2011 Bold and Digital Men of Social Media” calendar will commence tonight. We have a robust party list and are ready to pay homage to our fine selection of calendar men. Of course this night isn’t just about the men; we’re all coming together on behalf of a wonderful cause: Falling Whistles.

At 6:00 this evening guests will arrive, mingle and enjoy wine provided by Fontana di Papa, vodka drinks provided by Dot.Au, beer and light appetizers provided by City Market Café. From there, Libby and I will talk briefly about the calendar and then pass the mic along to Falling Whistles founder Sean Carasso who will share the story behind their effort to restore peace in the Republic of Congo. Party goers will be encouraged to contribute to the cause by depositing donations into jars representing each calendar man’s month – we hear a few of the men have even invited their parents… the contest to raise the most proceeds just got tougher!

We appreciate everyone’s interest in our project and hope that you take it upon yourselves to “Be a Whistle Blower for Peace” and help spread the word about Falling Whistles. Also, keep a look out for additional blog posts and Twitter updates with photos and snippets of the event – it’s going to be a fun one! And if you’re tweeting, don’t forget the hashtag is #socialmen!

xo,

Ashley & Libby

PS – actual calendar will be available in early December!

Today marks a significant day, both for the outcome of the #socialmen calendar, and for our charity Falling Whistles who released their first short film titled “Peace is the New Frontier”. I encourage you to take the time and watch this powerful video, which showcases the efforts behind their work and represents a large step forward on the road toward peace in Congo.

During our NYC event on October, 26th, and throughout 2011, we’ll work to raise proceeds – through the sale of whistles, calendars and charitable donations – all benefitting this wonderful cause.

FINAL VOTING: People's Choice Poll #SocialMen

Drum roll please…

Here it is, the moment we’ve been waiting for. A chance to showcase each one of our carefully selected nominees for the 2011 Bold & Digital Men of Social Media calendar and ask YOU to weigh in on the final voting process.

Each individual can vote for 5 men beginning now until 12PM EST on Friday, October 1. The final results from the poll will be taken into consideration during the judging process being held on Tuesday, October 5 by a diverse committee of Bold & Digital women.

Best of luck to all of you and may the Boldest and most Digital men win!

xo,

Ashley & Libby

PS – something to take into consideration, the 12 finalists will be asked to use their social media savvy to build awareness around our chosen charity Falling Whistles. It’s all for a good cause!

Introducing FINAL Nominee: Steve Rubel (@steverubel) #socialmen

Steverubel08

They say good things come to those who wait, and in this case our next nominee is definitely one of them. Yes, we may seem a little biased (we do in fact get the pleasure of working with this Bold & Digital guru) but, we knew it wouldn’t be a true competition without the addition of his name to the already compelling list of calendar men finalists. Just who could this mystery man be?

You guessed it: Steve Rubel

-       Steve is the Director of Insights at Edelman Digital, where he works to keep clients in the vanguard by studying emerging technologies, global media and online trends and turning them into actionable insights and marketing communications strategies – whew!

-       In addition to his popular blog The Steve Rubel Stream, he has almost 50K followers on Twitter where he shares his very Bold & Digital thoughts daily

-       His writings on emerging technologies and trends have been called must-read material by the Wall Street Jounal, Forbes, CNET, PC magazine and Forrester Research

-       He travels more than anyone I’ve ever met (he once told me it often takes him a few moments to remember what city he’s in when he wakes up) and has not taken a vacation day in YEARS – now that’s dedication!

-       He worked at Disney out of college and still views it as his dream job (yes, it’s true)

Congrats on your nomination, Steve. Last but certainly not least!

Ashley & Libby
